Can steps be added to an existing gunite pool?

Nancy, I think you did some landscape consulting for us a few years back. We live at 1626 Pope Ave. The existing gunite pool was put in I believe in the 1960's. We have had the pool repaired and have added pavers around it, but we have been considering adding steps. Do you know anything about who does that and how we might have it done?

Dear Gayle,

Great hearing from you! So sorry I didn't answer your question sooner. For some reason, I didn't receive an email that I had a question. Obviously, I need to directly check my sumissions as well.
Yes, you can add steps, seats and swim outs to an existing gunite pool. They are built out of concrete, drilled and dowled into the existing pool. The concrete needs to cure for 28 days before the marblite finish can be applied. If the pool needs resurfacing, this can be a good time to do it, so the entire surface color is the same. This is not mandatory, however. Ultimate Pools is the pool contractor that does most of my gunite pool projects. You can reach the owner, Steve Jowers, at 804-749-4706.
Thanks for your question!

Nancy
