driveway dilemma

by Anne

My moms ranch style house has a "u" shaped driveway that's shape was designed by the local farmer who used to plow them out in the winter. We were shocked that they followed his path and have been laying down stones for year. My mom is now considering selling and is taking to heart the lopsided driveway comments we made through the years. What is the best way to fix this and would parking look good at the end of the house?

I found your site trying to simplify their landscaping plan. Great information, thank you.

How To Fix
by: Nancy

HI!!

The photo is a help. Does it show the entire front? I think you have some options here, but will depend on how much you want to spend. Reshaping a driveway will involve heavy equipment work, a new surface and the clean up around it when it is all done. It would be thousands of dollars, so I would consider how much it would add to the selling price. Although, you and I value the importance of landscaping, not everyone does. Therefore, at this point in their life in this house, it may not pay for itself.
I think a new shape would look nicer. From the photo, one thought, is a circle drive with a softly curved driveway on the left side. The drive to the barn would be slighting moved over from the house where planting could soften the appearance of the corner of the house and barn.
Let me know what you think. I hope I've helped.
