Is driveway radiant heat reliable?

Hi Nancy. We live in Mid-Hudson Valley, NY. We get lots of snow here. We need to do some hardscaping starting with the driveway. Do you recommend radiant heat? Any caveats? If so, what surface material seems to work best with it - gravel, asphalt, concrete?

Hi! In Virginia our typical winters don't get too cold, so radiant heat in driveways is not big in VA. We do use it in concrete floors of pool houses and garages very successfully. Folks that have it love the heat source. Check with someone in your area about the ability of it to melt the ice on the driveway.

I've never heard it used in any material except concrete. I would think there would be too much give on top of the coils in a gravel or asphalt driveway.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Nancy
